UC Merced Medical Education Building
The new UC Merced Medical Education Building presents an opportunity to create a landscape that embraces the Valley’s unique, natural traits while responding to pressing climate challenges. Shade, seating, water resources, and student life are critical factors in the design outcome. This is the first building for the new medical school, and as such, the landscape needs to establish a compelling armature. A main Garden Walk promenade provides a spine for circulation and, together with a Hedgerow Walk, frames a large open space quad anchored by a garden terrace, outdoor classrooms, and tree-bosque courtyards. Natural and man-made site features weave throughout the campus, providing a new way to connect and frame views.
