Taco Plaza
Taco Plaza proposes the transformation of an underutilized parking lot along Northgate Boulevard into a vibrant, permanent community asset. For decades, Northgate has faced significant challenges, marked by business turnover, limited infrastructure investment, and a lack of family-friendly public spaces. The plaza builds on the organic success of the taco truck gatherings that already activate the site, capturing their energy and cultural significance while envisioning a more inclusive, long-term destination.
The proposed design supports ongoing taco truck programming by introducing permanent site furniture, custom planters, lighting, shade trees, and an iconic “TACO” letter-based installation, creating a memorable identity for the space. A community-led ground mural, painted directly onto the existing asphalt, brings vibrant color and expression to the site, signaling the emergence of the new Taco Plaza.
With strong support from the property owner, who is committed to long-term improvements over temporary fixes, Taco Plaza is envisioned as a welcoming, community-centered gathering space that reflects local culture, and fosters pride. The project enhances the public realm along Northgate Boulevard.
