Alhambra Placemaking Master Plan
The Midtown Association, a grassroots business organization, wanted to develop a stronger identity for the Alhambra corridor of Sacramento. After an extensive branding effort, ATLAS was brought on board to create a landscape and placemaking master plan strategy to help the district’s goals become fully realized. ATLAS performed extensive analysis of the existing conditions and held stakeholder “listening sessions” to gather feedback about the corridor.
A master plan was developed to align with the corridor’s identity, while also avoiding infrastructure changes. Site furnishings including custom seating options, landscape renovations, art based placemaking including icons at highly visible intersections, art at existing blank walls, fences, utility boxes and crosswalks, and community gathering spaces such as farmer’s markets, art walks and food truck pop-up opportunities were identified. The master plan was rounded out by a feasibility study that divided recommendations into low cost, medium cost and high cost implementation and phasing strategies.
