about the project
A sustainable plaza was designed and constructed within the Historic Folsom District. At first glance the plaza appears to be simply considered. This is by design. The space provides for ease of movement for the daily commuter or occasional visitor, while meeting safety and security needs.
Renovating an existing park site, the design process included numerous meetings with the City’s Historic District Commission. The team prepared design and construction documents for this plaza adjacent to a new light rail station, and is meant to accommodate large numbers of commuters and tourists arriving by bus or train. The plaza includes a commemorative rail line representing the path of the original 1856 Sacramento Valley Railroad. The project also created opportunities of adaptive reuse for the various historic plaques and markers found within the original City park site.
